Its fusion of authentic techniques, fresh ingredients, and approachable yet refined dishes positions it as a top choice for those craving Japanese cuisine crafted with care and creativity, all without the pretense of more central city venues.

In sum, IZU is a culinary delight offering a balanced mix of tradition and innovation. Its emphasis on freshness and presentation, coupled with a peaceful dining environment, creates a memorable experience that resonates with locals and visitors alike—ideal for anyone eager to explore Japanese flavors beyond the usual hotspots.

A hidden gem blending Kiwi and Japanese flavors, this low-profile restaurant impresses with its creative fusion cuisine. The cocktails are a bit pricey but worth every sip. While the food shines, the staff could be more patient and enthusiastic in guiding guests through the menu.

Delicious food .A lovely meal with group of friends . The tasting platter was delicious, great to share as a main if not too hungry . Serene, shady , quiet vibes on the evening we were there . (We played with our food , trying to create an umbrella out of a nasturtium leaf ).

We recently visited Izu Restaurant in Papakura and ordered a few of our favourites the chicken teriyaki, chicken karaage, and salmon sushi. The food came out beautifully presented and everything tasted incredibly fresh. The chicken teriyaki was cooked perfectly with a nice balance of sweetness and savoury flavour in the sauce. The chicken karaage was crispy on the outside and tender inside, not oily at all, which is always a good sign. The salmon sushi was also very fresh, with a clean taste that really stood out. You could tell the ingredients were of good quality and prepared with care. In terms of pricing, it’s a little on the higher side compared to some other Japanese places around Auckland, but given the freshness and overall quality, it still feels worth it. You’re paying for well-made food rather than something rushed or pre-made. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, especially during dinner hours or weekends. The area around the restaurant tends to get busy, so it might take a few minutes to find a spot. It’s not a dealbreaker, but worth keeping in mind if you’re in a hurry. Service-wise, things were a bit slow during our visit. There were only two staff members working….one behind the bar and one managing the floor ….so they seemed to be stretched thin. Despite that, both were polite and tried their best to keep up with the crowd. It looked like they might have been short-staffed that day, so it’s understandable. Overall, Izu is a cozy spot with great-tasting, fresh Japanese food. The quality definitely stands out, even if the service can be a bit slow when it’s busy. If you’re not in a rush and want a relaxed meal with authentic flavours, it’s definitely worth a visit.

This is our favourite restaurant in Auckland. And it's in Papakura. Don't let the location be a factor. The atmosphere, food and service are worth the drive out. EVERYTHING tastes great. This is the only restaurant where you can't go wrong... you could order any dish on the menu, and it'll be a winner. Everything on the menu is delicious. We can't pick a favourite dish because they are all soooo good.

What a hidden gem in the area. Was quite skeptical about the food at first but the food was cooked to such a high standard. Scallops were cooked to perfection with really good seasoning. Wagyu Yakitori was amazing with the sauce. The tempura prawns were perfect. To my surprise the Salmon aburi sushi was quite mid as it was probably the easiest dish to nail. Would be back to try the grilled octopus as I avoided ordering it lol

We loved all the food, they were slightly smaller plates, tapas style and made for sharing. Everything tasted fresh. The prawn tempura was so light and crispy, while the inside was hot and fresh. The kaarage chicken was the same, very succulent on the inside, not dry at all. Beef yakitori had a nice char on it, making a nice smoky beefy flavour. Pork belly was so juicy with a thin crispy skin. The sauces complement each dish nicely, and the drinks were tasty, too. The only thing that was kinda standard was probably the dumplings, that being said it just didn’t stand out to me among all the other delicious food. The other thing that I didn’t quite like was the music. It sounded like clubbing music with very heavy bass beats and was quite loud. The staff were very friendly. I would take my friends to eat here again.
